Caring for your Mahjong Atelier set

Tile care

Everyday care

Wipe your tiles with a soft, lint free microfiber cloth after each play session. This gently removes fingerprints and skin oils that can otherwise build up on the surface over time.

Light cleaning

For light dirt or smudges, dampen a microfiber cloth slightly with warm water, wring it out well, and gently wipe each tile. Follow with a dry cloth to prevent streaks.

Deeper cleaning

For a more thorough clean, add just a small drop of mild, dye free dish soap to warm water. Dip a soft cloth, wring it so it is barely damp, and gently wipe the tiles. Finish with a dry cloth.

Periodic polishing

For an occasional deep refresh, we recommend Novus #1 Plastic Clean and Shine, an acrylic safe cleaner that contains no abrasives or harsh chemicals. It leaves a smooth shine and helps resist fingerprints. As with any cleaner, we suggest testing on a single tile first.

What to avoid

• Harsh chemicals, alcohol, or solvents, which can strip or dull the finish
• Abrasive scrubbers or paper towels, which can scratch
• Submerging tiles in water
• Extended exposure to direct sunlight, high heat, or high humidity

A note on shuffling

Mahjong Atelier tiles are engraved, UV printed, and finished with a protective coating, built to last when shuffled the traditional way, by hand. We recommend against modern shufflers. A hard plastic edge dragging across the tile face is one of the most common causes of coating chips we see, and it happens gradually, so it is easy to miss until the damage adds up.

We are happy to replace a small number of tiles for cosmetic issues that come up during normal use. Extensive chipping caused by shufflers, paddles, or vigorous mixing on hard surfaces is not covered.

Mat care

• Spot clean with a slightly damp microfiber cloth as needed
• Air dry flat on a hard surface
• Never machine wash
• Store rolled rather than folded to avoid creases
• If your mat arrives with light wrinkles from packaging, running it through your dryer on low heat with a damp cloth for 15 to 20 minutes helps the neoprene backing relax and lay flat

Storage

Store your tiles in their original carrying bag when not in use. Keep the set in a stable environment away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and areas prone to moisture. Your Mahjong Atelier set is built to last, and thoughtful storage helps preserve both the finish and the precision of the tiles.
